In the beginning...

...there was silk.

This is the story of 5 ladies, 4 dresses and one old, reliable sewing machine.

What can you create with silk, laces, pearls and linen? Dreams. Dreams of beautiful baroque dresses.

Which is exactly what we have set out to do.

To begin, we started looking for inspiration, choosing to focus on the sencond half of the 17th century. We stumbled across an online gallery of beautiful portraits (http://www.gogmsite.net), but also interesting sites such as this one, http://www.metmuseum.org, where we found some interesting Dutch paintings from our chosen period.
As we looked into what the common woman wore, this article (http://www.reconstructinghistory.com/articles/17th-century/a-survey-of-common-womens-clothing-1660-1680.html) proved a useful starting point.

After quite a few indecisive looks and confused decisions, we finally managed to decide on what kind of dresses we want to make. The ideas were out on paper and these are the dresses we will make from scratch.

Next on the agenda was making sure everyone's sewing skills were dusted off and polished. Therefore a nice little "can-you-sew-in-a-straight-line" test were conducted - and we're glad to say that we all passed with flying colors!

Soon sketches and ideas will turn into patterns....
